5. Awards Selection Process: Best Teacher Award needs to be
more transparent and participative and this can be expected to
give additional motovation to the teachers.
6. During the survey, many teachers expressed concerns regarding
the scrutiny process for selecting the Best Teacher Award. To
address these concerns, it is essential to establish such a framework
for the selection process that inspires confidence among teachers
by ensuring clarity, fairness, and accountability.
DECISIONS TO BE TAKEN W.R.T.
POLICY
7. Rationalising the policy of teaching in
mother tongue at classroom level in schools;
Teaching students in their mother tongue is currently not feasible
due to the diversity of languages and the limitations of teachers
in mastering multiple languages. For example, at High School
Bonin, the ratio of Kashmiri-speaking and Gujari-speaking
students in most classes, especially at the foundational level,
is 1:1. Teachers face language barriers and, therefore, resort to
using Urdu or English for instruction. Similar observations have
been made in other schools.
8. English may be required till the time teaching in National
Language is not implemented: Additionally, teachers of English
feel that this language has been undervalued. They suggest that
English should be implemented as a medium of instruction
starting from the foundational level to ensure a strong foundation
in the language which is so important at higher educational
levels. Since the teaching at higher level is not implemented
in regional or local languages/ Urdu/ Kashmiri but rather in
English, so to ensure that there is no loss to the students when
they reach the University level; it’s important to keep the focus
on English too – at least at this stage.
